Your car needs regular maintenance and service to ensure all of its systems are working properly. That includes mechanical systems as well as the heating and cooling systems. Don’t get left out in the cold without heat.
Do you know what to look for to tell if your car’s heater core is operating properly? Here’s a few tips:
- Is the inside of your car warm enough? One indicator could be, if the temperature gauge appears to be reading normally and there are no other problems with your cooling system, but your car isn’t getting warm inside.
- Do you smell coolant in your car for no reason when driving.
- Do you see any signs inside your car of a coolant leak?
- Check your coolant levels regularly. If you notice the level is dropping, it could mean it’s leaking.
The symptoms could be different from various makes and models of vehicle. It’s important to make sure your coolant is fresh and you have enough in your vehicle so that it doesn’t run hot and leave you stranded in the cold, or worse, ruin your engine!
The first thing any car owner can do is to check the anti-freeze in the vehicle. Anti-freeze can go bad, and will create problems with your heater core, causing it to fail. We also recommend a coolant flush every 50,000 – 70,000 miles in order to extend the life of your heating system.
